1. Machine tool

   • Uses a power source.
   • Used as a tool in the making of others machines.
   • This can be operated manually, or under automatic control.

2. Turning machine

   • Is the most importan of all the machine tools.
   • It is used to produce external or internal cylindrical surfaces.
   • This is held by the machine.
   • This is rotated while a cutting tool removes excess metal from the external diameter.

3. Shaper

   • Is a metal-cutting machine
   • Is used to produce or modify flat surfaces.
   • Moves cutting on the forward stroke.
   • This can be horizontal or vertical.

4. Drilling machine

   • It is used to produce circular holes in metal:
     • With a twist dril.
   • This uses a variety of other cutting tools:
     • This is to perform the basic hole-machining operations.

5. Milling machine

   • This curts flat metal surfaces.
   • Is fed against a rotating cutting tool.
   • There cutters of many shapes and sizes.
   • Are available for a wide variety of milling operations.
