1. Aim

   • to see if people would follow orders if it was given by someone in uniform

2. Method

   • confederates dressed up in guard uniforms and then asked people to pick up litter

3. results

   • 80% of people picked up the litter when a guard asked them compared to 40% of people when a non guard asked them

4. conclusion

   • wearing uniform increases perceived legitimate authority making it more likely for people to do what you want them to

5. evaluation

   • has high ecological validity because it was in a real park but would be higher if it was a park keeper as this is what we would find in a park norally
