Cryptographic Systems

1. There are three primary objectives of securing communications:

   • Confidentiality
   • Authentication
   • Integrity

2. Types encryption algorithms

   • Symmetric encryption algorithms
     • Data Encryption Standard (DES)
     • Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)
     • 3DES
   • Asymmetric encryption algorithms
     • Rivest, Shamir, and public key infrastructure (PKI).
     • Adleman (RSA)

3. Data Integrity

   • Data integrity ensures that messages are not altered in transit. With data integrity

4. Data Confidentiality

   • Ensures privacy so that only the receiver can read the message.

5. Crptology

   • Cryptography - the development and use of codes
   • Cryptanalysis - the breaking of those codes
