Software Testing Techniques

  1. Unit Testing

    • Unit Testing is a level of software testing where individual units/ components of a software are tested. The purpose is to validate that each unit of the software performs as designed.
      • Who performs it?
        • Unit Testing is normally performed by software developers themselves or their peers. In rare cases it may also be performed by independent software testers.
  2. White Box Testing

    • White Box Testing is a software testing method in which the internal structure/ design/ implementation of the item being tested is known to the tester.
      • White-box testing usually involves tracing possible execution paths through the code and working out what input values would force the execution of those paths.
  3. Error based testing

    • Testing where information about programming style, error-prone language constructs, and other programming knowledge is applied to select test data capable of detecting faults, either a specified class of faults or all possible faults.
  4. Scenario based evaluation software

    • For each scenario, determine whether the architecture can executed it directly, or whether a change would be required to executed it (in which case we call the scenario indirect).
      • For each indirect scenario, list the changes to the architecture that are necessary for it to support the scenario and estimate the cost of performing the change.
