     • Slower over long distances
   • Advantages
     • Disadvantages
   • Maximum flexibility with door to door service
     • The weight of each load is limited
   • Not subject to fixed timetables
     • Subject to delay due to road traffic, road accidents, strikes and bad weather
   • Routes can be changet at short notice
     • Causes air pollution and other forms of environmental damage

   • Advantages
     • Disadvantages
   • Faster than road transport for long journeys
     • Slower and more expensive over short distances than road Transport
   • Suitable for bulk goods
     • Lack of flexibility as routes are fixed
   • Causes less pollution than other means of Transport
     • Need for additional forms of Transport to and from the railway station
   • Not subject to delays due to bad weather or traffic conditions
     • Subject to timetable and delays due to strikes and manpower problems
