Network Topology
Mesh
- Diagram
- Advantages
- Each connection can carry its own data load, It is robust, A fault is diagnosed easily, Provides security and privacy.
- Disadvantages
- Installation and configuration are difficult if the connectivity gets more, Cabling cost is more and the most in case of a fully connected mesh topology, Bulk wiring is required
- Definition
- A mesh network is a network where al nodes are interconected, a partial mesh network is shown above, a full mesh is where each node is directly connected to each other
Star
- Diagram
- Advantages
- signals don’t necessarily get transmitted to all the workstations, Easy to connect new nodes or devices and can also be removed easily, Failure of one node or link doesn’t affect the rest of network
- Disadvantages
- Too much dependency on central device has its own drawbacks, If it fails whole network goes down, a router or a switch as central device increases the overall cost of the network.
- Definition
- n a star network each device on the network has its own cable that connects to a switch or hub. A hub sends every packet of data to every device, whereas a switch only sends a packet of data to the destination device.
