4b- Limitations of ICT

1. Battery Power

   • Size of battery in portable device is restricted
   • Hard disk drive with moving parts need more power than new Solid state devices, but SSD cannot store as much
   • O- Solar powered chargers.

2. Bandwidth and connectivity

   • Wireless networks have restriction in how much and how far data can travel
     • Only people in big cities or with expensive data plans can access super high bandwidths

3. Size

   • Smaller devices may not display normal webpages effectively
     • Different mobile versions of sites, or apps have to be developed, costing money.
     • could use holograph or head up display in the future
     • Small on keyboards may cause mistakes, slowing data entry.
   • Small devices restrict battery size
   • Devices such as storage, processors, memory, printed circuit boards and other devices are becoming smaller.

4. Processing power

   • Can limit how fast a device can work and how many tasks it can get through
     • e.g. It has taken years to analyse the human DNA to find every gene
   • O- Processing chips getting smaller means, mobiles today are more powerful than the largest computers 10 years ago
     • Major IT companies still need MASSIVE computers to do their processing.

5. Memory

   • Limits the amount of data that can be stored at any one time
   • RAM can limit how fast a computer can run multiple applications at the same time
   • O- SSD's are becoming cheaper with higher capacities
   • O- Current improvements in compression techniques

6. Hardware/Software

   • Certain tasks can't be done because the hardware and software needed for it doesn't exist yet.
   • Software and equipment are constantly being developed.

7. People

   • May be unwilling to, or lack the ability to use new technology
     • People do not see the technology as necessary, or think it might be used against them.
     • Can prevent mass roll-out of new tech.
