1. Data

   • What is data
     • Numbers
     • Words
     • Images
     • Sound
     • Data is meaningless as it has no relevance
   • How data can arise
     • Results of experiment
     • From a Survey
     • From a Transaction
   • Example of data: 3.22, 3.24, 3.26, 3.25

2. Information

   • Processing of data
   • Information gives data context
     • 3.22, 3.24, 3.26, 3.25 means nothing without context. Information puts it in to context eg race times
   • Data converted to give it meaning

3. Knowledge

   • Derived From information by applying rules
   • Knowledge of race times shows you that 3.22 was the fastest so they win

4. Encoding Data

   • Less Effort
   • Less storage
   • More can appear on Screen
   • Examples - GB = Great Britain. S = Small, M = Medium ect
   • Problems with encoding Data
     • Loss of Accuracy
       • Eye colour - BL = Blue GR = Green what about if eyes were Blue/Green what code?
     • Value Judgments
       • What are the guidelines for Small, Medium and Large in relevance to heigh this is an opinion
