Resin
Applications
The resins that are used in fibre reinforced composites can also be referred to as 'polymers'. Polymers can be classified under two types, 'thermoplastic' and 'thermosetting', according to the effect of heat on their properties.
The hard transparent resin are more largely used for therapeutic purposes and incense. Humans have been using natural resins for thousands of years. Pine pitch has been used to seal boats, mummies, food containers, and an assortment of other things. It has also been used as a component in inks, perfumes, jewelry, and many other objects.
Resin, typically applied through a loose-woven bag, is used by baseball pitchers on the pitching hand for a better grip on the ball.Ballet dancers, as well as boxers in the old days, may apply crushed resin to their shoes to increase grip on a slippery floor.
Resin in the form of rosin is applied to the bows of musical string instrument because of its ability to add friction to the hair to increase sound quality.
Advantage and disadvantage
1. Good mechanical properties
high ultimate strength, high stiffness and a high strain to failure.
2. Good adhesive properties
loads are transferred efficiently and will prevent cracking resin when stressed.
3. Good toughness properties
More deformation the resin will accept before failure the tougher and more crack-resistant the material will be.
4. Good resistance to environmental degradation
Good resistance to the environment, water and other aggressive substances
How they are made
It is distinct from other liquid compounds found inside plants or exuded by plants, particularly coniferous trees. Plant resin can be clear to dark brown in color, and it varies in opacity and hardness. Some is also extremely volatile, since it contains unstable compounds
