Guillaume Duchenne did research on smiling and concluded that people could not fake a smile.
- For it to be real muscles in the corner of the mouth have to go up and the cheeks have to raise causing your eyes to crinkle.
- This research was later disproved by Eva Krumhuber and Antony Manstead who found that people can fake a smile in pictures. However, it was much easier to tell the smile was fake in a video, because you could see it for longer and truly see the facial expression associated with the smile.
