1Phases of neurodevelopment
- AAggregation : Once developing neurons have migrated, cells align themselves with other cells and form structures..time and location are important factors.
Cell adhesion molecules CAMs help migration and aggregation. CAMs are little magnets at the surface of the neurons to attract other neurons to help them respond to the chemical markers. - BAxon growth and synapse formation: Once migration is complete and structures have formed (aggregation) axons and dendrites begin to grow. For the nervous system to function this projections have to grow at appropriate targets. The cells follow the same pathway when they grew back. This is fasciculation, the tendency of developing axons to grow along the paths established by preceding axons.
- Csynapse formation:Once axons have reach their intended sites they must establish an appropriate pattern of synapses. A single neuron can grow an axon on its own, but it takes coordination activity between two neurons to produce a synapse.
Chemical signals exchange between the pre and post synaptic neuron. - DNeuron death:Neuron death is important and normal part of neurodevelopment.. The brain is largely develop when this happen. The compatible neurons stay, the bad ones die either by necrosis or apoptosis.
Neurotrophis promote growth and survival guide axons and stimulate synaptogenesis . - ESynapse rearragement:During the period of cell death, neurons that have established incorrect connections are likely to die. Space left after apoptosis is filled by sprouting axons terminals of surviving neurons. Ultimately leads to increase selectivity of transmission.
- FMigration:Once cells have been created through cell division in the ventricular zone of the neural tube, they migrate. they migrate starting in one place and move where they are needed. Migrating cells are immature, lacking axons and dendrites. New stem cells migrate to forebrain, midbrain, hindbrain. Immature cells, little cells migrate and develop into any shape in the part of the brain of body when they are needed. They migrate into two different kinds. Radial migration----moving out
and Tangential migration-----moving up.....Most cells engage in both types of migration.
- AAggregation : Once developing neurons have migrated, cells align themselves with other cells and form structures..time and location are important factors.
