Difference between cofactors and coenzymes
- Cofactors are a non-protein component needed to help enzymes carry out their function.
- If the cofactor is an organic molecule its a coenzyme. These are often vitamins. Coenzyme are responsible for the transfer of hydrogen atoms between molecules in respiration.

-
- Prosthetic groups are cofactors that bind irreversibly to the enzyme as apposed to cofactors that detach and aren't permanent.
