Question Answer
What are the types of bonds? Ionic bonds, covalent bonds and metallic bonds.
Ionic bonding occurs when? Compounds from metals combined with non-metals
In ionic bonding how are the particles? The particles are oppositely charged ions
Covalent bonding occurs when? Compounds of non-metals combined with non-metals in most non-metallic elements.
In covalent the particles are? The atoms that share pairs of electrons.

Question Text Answer Text
What happens when metals and non-metals transfer electrons? They become charged. These are called ions.
When is it called ionic bonding? When there are bonded together by electrostatic attraction.
When does covalent bonding happen? Non-metals can also share electrons between atoms.
When does metallic bonding occur? Metals are bonded together as positive ions by electrons that move around
What are ionic bonding at room temperature? Solids
Covalent bonding at room temperature? Gases and liquids
Metallic bonding at room temperature? Solids
Why do atoms form bonds? To form a stable electronic structure, making them unreactive. Except for Helium.
What two groups have the electronic structure of a noble gas and a positive charge? Group 1 and 2.
What two groups have the electronic structure of a noble gas and a negative charge? Group 6 and 7.
What is electronic transfer during the formation of an ionic compound? They can be represented by a dot and a cross diagram.
What is it called when two opposite charges attract each other? They are called electrostatic attraction.
Why do they attract? To form large packs of ions that form crystals.
