Question Answer
Absolute value The absolute value of a number is the distance between the number and the origin (0). Ex: |-9| = 9 because -9 is 9 spaces away from 0 in the negative direction.
Adjacent angles Two angles in a plane which share a common vertex and a common side but do not overlap.
Scientific notation A standardized way of writing real numbers. All real numbers are written in the form a x 10^b, where 1 ≤ a < 10 and b is an integer. Ex: 351 is written 3.51 x 10^2 in scientific notation.
Median The value for which half the numbers are larger and half are smaller. If there are two middle numbers, the median is the arithmetic mean of the two middle numbers.
Mean Average
Mode The number that occurs the most often in a list.
Midpoint The point halfway between two given points. The midpoint formula is: ((x1+x2)/2, (y1+y2)/2)
X-intercept A point at which a graph intersects the x-axis. Y=0 where the line crosses the x-axis, so plug 0 in for y and solve for x.
Y-intercept A point at which a graph intersects the y-axis.
Slope A number which is used to indicate the steepness of a line, as well as indicating whether the line is tilted uphill or downhill. Slope (m) = rise (y2-y1)/run (x2-x1).
Reciprocal The reciprocal of x is 1/x. In other words, a reciprocal is a fraction flipped upside down.
Slope intercept form of an equation Y = mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept.
