Question Answer
What are the units of entropy? JK-1mol-1
What does entropy describe? The disperal of energy within the chemicals making up a chemical system
What would occur at 0K? No energy, all substances would have an entropy value of zero.
What generates different values of ΔS? More random - larger energy dispersal= +ΔS Less random - smaller energy disperal= -ΔS
How can we compare entropy in an equation? Compare physical states and amount of gas molecules on either side of an equation
What is standard entropy? S°= entropy of 1 mole substance, under standard conditions (100kPa/298K)
What is the unit of standard entropy? JK-1mol-1 S° is always positive
How do we calculate entropy changes? ΔS°=∑S°(products)-∑S°(Reactants) (page 364 for practice q)
