Question | Answer |
Data | Unit of information that flows across a network |
Node | These are end devices that are on the network |
Client | Client requests services |
Server | Server fulfills services |
Peer | Can perform either as a client or a server |
Network Adapter | Gains access to the Network and gains access to other devices with allows access to the media |
Hub | This is a device that multiple devices hook into that basically spreads the data around to other devices so everybody has access to it |
Switch | Similar to a hub, it has different functionality. These are basically network utilities or network devices used to connect multiple devices together |
Router | Routers enable computers to communicate and allow communication between two networks – such as your home network and the internet |
Media | This is what devices talk on. Cable, wireless… different types of media |
Transport Protocol | Any system that has communication has rules. For networking those are called Protocols or Standards, by using these Protocols or Standards different devices are able to connect to each other and inter-communicate. E.g. Different email servers can talk to each other. |
Bandwidth | This is what you use to transfer data across the network, what is available to you. |
