Mirrors Mirrors are PMS, CCB clean, adjusted to me.
Before performing a safe start... Make sure both red and yellow valve are pulled out and tractor is in neutral. Say, "I will now perform my safe start but before I do I will check that the ABS light on the dash and trailer comes on and off to show it's working properly." Then proceed to turn the key to the "ON" position (at this point make sure you look at the back of trailer and then dash to make sure ABS comes on and off. Say, "The ABS light came on and off indicating it's working properly." Then, depress clutch and perform safe start.
With the engine on demonstrate: 1. City horn 2. Air horn 3. Voltmeter - My alternator is charging between 12 & 14 volts. 4. Oil pressure - Engine oil pressure is rising to normal operating range. 5. Water temperature - Water temperature is rising to normal oprating range. 6. Air pressure gauges (both) - "Air pressure should build to governor cut between 120-125 PSI" 7. Indicator lights: *Point at each one as you check it* Left turn signal, right turn signal, 4 ways, high beams. 8. Heater & defroster - Turn on and wave hand above defroster to show it works. 9. Windshield - PMS, CBB, clean, free of debris. 10. Windshield washer - Turn on. 11. Windshield wipers - PMS, CBB, operate smoothly. 12. Wiper blades - PMS, not cracked or dry rotted.
Parking Brake Check (Tug Test) Tug Test 1. Both feet down 2. "I will now perform my tug test." 3. "I will tug against tractor first - push the red Trailer Air Supply valve in, put in 3rd gear, let off clutch halfway." *Then pull red valve out.* 4. I will now tug against the trailer." Push yellow Parking Brake in, let off clutch halfway. **Pull yellow valve out and put both feet on the ground.
Service Brake Check 1. "I will now perform my service brake check. I will pull forward at 5 MPH, press my brake and check that the truck doesn't pull to the left or right." 2. Put in 3rd gear, push in valves, pull forward at least 5 MPH, and firmly press on brake. 3. "It did not pull to left or right." 4. Do not touch anything after service brake check. Leave in gear and turn off truck then back to the "ON" position. Both feet down.
Air Brake Check Stages Stage 1: Applied pressure test. Stage 2: Pump down to warning light and buzzer. Stage 3: Pump down until red tractor protection valve and the yellow parking brake valve pops out.
Air Brake Check Stage 1: Applied Pressure Test: 1. "I will now fully depress on my brake and wait for the gauges to stabilize." *Point to the primary and secondary air gauges and applied pressure gauge* 2. "I will check that I lose no more than 4 PSI within 1 minute while listening for air leaks." 3. "Will you time me?" 4. "You will time me starting now." 5. Look at the air gauges, listen for air leaks and wait for examiner to tell you time is up. "I did not lose more than 4 PSI within one minute. Both feet down.
Air Brake Check Stage 2: Air Supply warning light and buzzer: 1. "I will now fan on my brake AND AT OR BEFORE 60 PSI my lower air warning buzzer and light will come on." 2. Fan the brake until the buzzer and light come on. Both feet down.
Air Brake Check Stage 3: Valve pop out. 1. "I will now continue to fan on my brake and my red and yellow valve should pop out between 40 - 20 PSI." 2. When fanning brake look at air gauge and then focus on valves. Do NOT touch valves. 3. "That completes my air brake check."
