Physics
Cards in this deck (9)
- 1why is physics considered a basic science?physics provides the foundation for all other sciences
- 2what basic phenomenons is physics concerned with? (5)force, motion, light, heat, sound, energy
- 3what role does mathematics play in physics?when things are expressed mathematically it is easier to verify or disprove by experimentation
- 4outline the steps of the scientific method (5)1) observation : recognized an unexplained question
2) hypothesis: make an educated guess
3) predict: predict the consequences (outcomes) of the hypothesis
4) Test Predictions: experiments and calculations
5) Conclusion : the simplest rule that organizes your findings - 5difference between scientific fact and law?fact: an agreement between scientists that are the same about a phenomenon
law: a theory or hypothesis that has been tested over and over again and has never failed - 6How is "changing your mind" viewed in the scientific community?scientists must be able to change their minds when their findings are contradicted
- 7what is the penalty for fraud in the scientific community?scientific honesty must be maintained in order to remain credible. the penalty is professional excommunication
- 8when is a hypothesis not scientific?when we do not have the means to prove it wrong
