Question Answer
Lead with... LOVE. God describes Himself as love, so we lead with love, not morality or politics. We are confident that the gospel will win wherever it goes. Therefore, we are comfortable inviting people to belong before they believe. Jesus was accused of being a friend of sinners. We want to be guilty of the same.
You can't give... WHAT YOU DON'T HAVE. We are constantly giving out as we serve others and as a result we will often feel drained. It is vital for our personal lives and success in ministry that we have a consistent day time with God. We use the Grow Model and Life Journals as our devotional guide.
Arrows... OUT. It's easy to become unintentionally self-focused. It's about Jesus. It's His mission. It's not about me. We will stay focused on the 271,000 in our cities who do not yet know Jesus.
What I am part of is bigger than... THE ROLE I PLAY. We are servants who have a unified vision. We are team and use "we" not "they," statements. We are committed to alignment to the overall vision and mission. We are focused more on being contributors than consumers.
Start with... YES. We talk about why it does work, not reasons it won't. We will will not be whiners or complainers. We will be positive, can-do people.
Continual... IMPROVEMENT. Our goal is for everything to be just a little better each week. If you stand still you fall behind. We don't expect perfection, however, we do expect consistent progress. We may not currently have everything we need in our hand, but we are resourceful and look at problems as opportunities to unite, work hard, share the struggle, trust God and make it happen.
We Dream... BIG DREAMS. We would rather walk on water with Jesus than live life in the boat with our friends. We are willing to take the risks and exercise our faith. We are committed to learning from our mistakes. We are not afraid to fail. The mission is an adventure with Jesus.
Apprentice... ALWAYS. We highly value recruiting, training and apprenticing leaders. We strive to be two deep at each position so there is someone to step up when we launch new gatherings, new campuses, or a current spot opens up.
Kids and youth... ARE PRIORITY. Kids environments are the number one priority outside of the adult auditoriums and main lobby. Everything else may be adjusted or impacted to provide the best environments for our kids.
Less is... MORE. We strive to keep church simple by eliminating unneeded activities and content. Left along, everything will get cluttered and complicated. This applies to our gatherings, preaching, ministries, calendar - really to everything!
Principle versus... PREFERENCE. We are not guided by personal preferences but rather biblical principles. Principles are "closed fist" conversations. These are biblical truths we hold tightly to. Preferences are considered "open hand" - things we prefer, things unaddressed in the Bible. For example: musical styles, environments and methodology.
Celebrate... STORIES. We believe in the power of the story of one. We leave with stories of life change instead of stats. We are not afraid of numbers, however stories engage a person significantly more than a number ever will.
