Question Answer
The present progressive is forming by combining the verb "to be" with the present participle (-ing). Uses Can be used to describe what is happening now or what will happen in the future.
Structure Affirmative Sentences Subject + auxiliar to be + verb (-ing) He is eating She is running
Negative Sentences Subject + auxiliar to be + not + verb (-ing) I am not talking We are not eating Interrogative Sentences Auxiliar to be + subject + verb (ing) Are you talking? Are they learning?
Sometimes writers use this tense to add suspense or humor in fictional pieces. Do not use the present continuous tense with stative verbs. Stative verbs show a state of being that does not show qualities of change. These verbs can stay in the simple present.
Here, the stative verb to prefer shows opinion, and therefore should not be conjugated into the present continuous.
