| What is a database? | A database can be used in schools and businesses to contain useful information that can allow staff to quickly find information such as contact details or details of an order |
| What are websites? | These are valuable sources of information. However the information displayed on a website may not be up to date! or websites may be display incorrect information. Websites run by well known organisations or governments can usually be trusted to hold reliable information. |
| What is application software? | Software designed to do a particular job. |
| What is operating software? | The software that controls the hardware and also runs the programs |
| What is program? | The set of step by step instructions that tell the computer hardware what to do. |
| What is software? | The programs used by computers |
| What is word processor software? | Can be used for writing assignments, producing letters, keeping notes or writing books and other word processing tasks. |
| What is desktop publishers? | Can be used to manipulate text and images to produce posters, leaflets newsletters and other similar documents. |
| Presentation software? | Can be used to produce slides used in teaching or lecturing, and may include video, sound, animations and slide transitions e.g. dissolve, fade etc. Some of the slides many have hyperlinks to other programs, music files, websites etc. There may be many possibilities. |
| Spread sheets software? | Can be used to perform calculations. Provided the formula is correct, the calculations will always be accurate. Models of situations can be undertaken and 'What if?' questions can be asked. Charts and graphs can be drawn from data to illustrate the results of an investigation. |
| Database software? | Can be used for sorting data which can than then be sorted or searched. Reports can be printed out |
| Graphics software? | Manipulating images that can be used at home, school or buisness |
| Web authoring software? | Creating personal or business websites |
