Question | Answer |
How would you work out the mean? | 1) Find the total of the numbers 2) Divide by how many numbers there are. |
How would I calculate the median average? | Arrange the numbers in order of size. Find the middle number. If there are 2 numbers, add them together and divide by 2. |
How would I calculate the mode? | Look for the number that occurs the most often. |
How would I estimate the answer to a calculation? | Round the numbers and use those to answer the question. Ie. Estimate the answer to 23 + 39 is 20 + 40 = 60. |
How can I check an answer to a calculation? | By using an inverse or reverse calculation, or estimation. |
How would I work out a percentage of an amount? | 1) Find 1% of the number (by dividing by 100) 2) Then multiply by the percentage that you want |
How would I calculate an original amount from a percentage? eg. 60% of the class wear glasses, this is 12 people. How many people do not wear glasses? | Use the percentage that we know to find 1%. Then use 1% to work out the percentage we need. eg. 60% = 12 1% = 12 divided by 60 = 0.2 0.2 x 40 = 8 people do not wear glasses |
How would I work out the area of a circle? | πr^2 |
How would I work out the surface area of a 3D shape? | 1) Work out the area of each face. 2) Add each of these together. |
How would I work out the volume of a cuboid? | Length x width x height Measured in cubic units ie m^3 |
How many degrees are there in a triangle and a circle? | Triangle = 180⁰ Circle = 360⁰ |
How would I find a fraction of an amount? | 1) Divide the amount by the bottom number in the fraction 2) Multiply by the top number in the fraction |
How would I work out the circumference of a circle? | πd or 2πr |
