Question Answer
A letter from home informs you that your mother has fallen ill. You waste several days worrying about her health.
A crazy old miner with gold fever is convinced you’ve stolen his claim. He is so angry that he chases you out of the mining camp. You have to relocate your tent and all of your supplies once again.
After twelve full hours of digging, you have nothing to show except a pile of dirt and rocks
A huge rainstorm struck while you were mining at the river. When you returned to camp, your tent had been washed away.
You left the river later than you wanted to. It got very dark and you got lost on your way home. You had to sleep on the ground in the rain and caught a cold. Thankfully it wasn’t the flu!
Robbers catch you off guard on your lonely walk back to the mining camp and steal the flakes you found earlier today.
Many miners around you have been striking it big! Some have even found up to $2,000 in gold a day. Sadly, you and most other miners only average $10 a day.
You have been mining hard since gold was found in 1848. You’ve had some big finds along the way. Unfortunately, it’s 1852, and almost all of the “easy” gold (on the surface) has already been found.
You have to take a day off work AGAIN! One of your friends accidentally drowned in the river. This is your third funeral for a miner this month. Too many of your friends have died drowning or catching diseases lately.
Today is not your best day. Normally, you enjoy a meal of beans, bacon, and local game (meat hunted). However, you haven’t had many gold finds lately and can’t afford the bacon and game. Looks like dinner is going to be beans!
RUN! As quickly as you can!!! Your neighbor’s tent just caught on fire while he was cooking dinner. One mining camp down the road completely burned down the other week from a cooking fire. You’d better grab what you can and run as fast as you can!
Time to run back to the nearest boomtown for a quick cure for your cold! Sleeping on the cold, wet ground is not easy on the immune system. This is the third time you’ve been sick this season!
Today, you just can’t stop thinking about your parents back home. You thought leaving was hard enough. Being alone in the mining camp might feel worse, though.
Whoops! You remembered to bring your pan and shovel, but you forgot your pick. You’d better head back to the camp and grab it before someone else does
Today is not your lucky day in Carson Hill. You found a spot in the morning that you had a good feeling about, but an unfriendly fellow kicked you out of it when you returned from lunch. Turns out he found the second largest gold nugget in the Gold Rush – it weighed 160 pounds.
Bending over all day panning for gold in the icy creeks is really taking a toll on your back.
You worked hard all day. You finally found a tiny nugget, but a pulse burst through the river at that moment and knocked the nugget out of your tin pan. A man downstream . grabbed it.
Time to refill on your basic supplies. Unfortunately, that means paying crazy high prices. One egg costs several dollars! Those shop owners must make a killing
