Drug Reference Guide A list of medications and prescriptions drug information and pill identifiers for consumers and pharmacy professionals./
Policies and Procedures Written documentation used to determine decisions, actions, methods, and operations that take place within the boundaries set by the workplace.
DEA Number A number by the US Drug Enforcement Administration, allowing a qualified healthcare provider to prescribe controlled substances
Enunciate To say, express, or proclaim clearly
Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) Supplies all nutrients to a patient through the veins
Compounding Medication The creation of a particular pharmaceutical product specific to a patient's needs using appropriate ingredients and processes
Barcoding Tagging the package item with a machine-readable Universal Product Code (UPC) to identify a medication
Unit-Dosing Individual doses are prepared by the pharmacy and delivered individually labeled packets
Contraindication A specific situation in which drug shouldn't be used because it's harmful to the person
Triage Assigning degrees of urgency to decide the order in which a situation will be treated
Automated Dispensing Machine A computerized drug storage and dispensing device located in healthcare settings like hospitals and nursing homes rather than in central pharmacy
Lot Number An identification number assigned to a particular quantity or batch from a single manufactures; typically found on outside of package
NDC Number National Drug Code Number -a unique 10 digit, 3 segment number that identifies prescription and nonprescription drugs in the US
Want Book A complied list of medications that need to be ordered by the pharmacy buyer to restock appropriately
Etiquette A customary code of polite behavior in society or among members of a particular profession or group
Interpersonal Relating to relationships or communication between two people
Mail Order Pharmacy Pharmacies that use large automated dispensing machines at main distribution center and may fill prescriptions for a 3 month supply; have very little interaction with customers
Clinic Pharmacy Caters tp clients with insurance through HMOs or PPOs
Community Pharmacy Large chain drugstores, privately owned pharmacies. grocery stores pharmacies, and large discount store pharmacies
Ambulatory Pharmacy "walk-in" facilities including community, clinic, mail order, and managed care pharmacies where customers purchase prescription or OTC medications
Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) Insurance Allows plan participants to use doctors and hospitals they choose, not those assigned to them
Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) Insurance Combines a wide range of coverages to a group; included medical professionals offer a flat monthly rate with no deductibles
Nuclear Pharmacy Compounds and dispenses radioactive materials
Infusion Pharmacy Prepares personalized intravenous medications
Compounding Pharmacy Prepares personalized medications for patients
Generic Medications The official name given by the FDA to a medication which is described by it's chemical nature
Brand name Medications Trademarked medications manufactured and advertised by a pharmaceutical company
Technician A person expertise in the practical application of a technology
Mentoring More experienced person guides a less experienced one
Medication Reconciliation Comparing patient drugs and dosages with the medical doctors records tp prevent discrepancies
Attire Appropriate clothing, dress, or apparel
Cultural Competence Healthcare services provided with a sensitivity to diverse ethnic and social backgrounds
Accountability Taking responsibility for one's own actions
Confidentiality The requirements of healthcare professionals to respect and protect the privacy of personal health information
Professionalism The skills, qualities, proper judgment, and behavior expected from a person with the special education, training, and skills to preform a job with these requirements
Prescription An order for a medication written by a medical doctor for a pharmacist to prepare and fulfill
Dispense Provide medicinal drugs
