Bagru printing is a traditional printing technique that is done using natural colours. It is a craft practiced by the 'chippas' community in a remote town of Rajasthan. Bagru printing is generally done on a blue or indigo background. |
| Bagru chhipas came from Sawai Madhopur, Alwar, Jhunjhuna, and Sikkar districts of Rajasthan to settle in Bagru and make it their home outset around 450 years ago. They are known for their unique designs of luxuriant trellises in sophisticated natural colors. | The unique method for printing employs wooden block in it. In the process, the desired design is engraved on the wooden block first and then the carved block is used for replicating the design in the preferred colour on the fabric. |
| The patterns and motifs predominant in traditional Bagru prints were geometrical (circular) but were combined with bird, animal and floral forms to create beautiful designs. | You might be surprised to know that water has a significant impact on the results produced by both printing techniques. For instance, the use of water in Sanganeri prints causes darker tone effects to appear on the fabric. In contrast to this, water brings out a reddish tone in the block prints in Bagru printing! |
| The patterns I made: | I made these 3-D patterns. If you carefully observe then each block is coloured after one block is left which then makes a pattern. To make this pattern you will have to require the following things: Ruler. Eraser, Pencil, Sheet and colours. Thank you! |
