Question Answer
Settlement A settlement is a place where people live and carry out activities such as farming, trading and manufacturing.
Site Site describes the characteristics of the actual point at which a settlement is located. (The longtitude and langtitude)
Situation Situation describes the location of a place relative to its surroundings. Ex: This pace is located behind the park.
Factors affecting location of early settlements 1) Water supply 2) Avoidance of natural hazards 3) Building materials 4) Food supply 5) Relief 6) Defence 7) Accessibility 8) Fuel supply 9) Resources
Water supply -Nearby, guaranteed supply was essential as water is needed daily and is heavy to carry any distance. -Where rainfall is unreliable/unlimited, people settle where the water table is near the surface, enabling shallow wells to be dug. (Water-seeking sites)
