Question Answer
Allows for data and files to be shared across the network instead storing on each individual computer’s hard drive. Users are too reliant on the network. If the network goes offline, data, files and programs cannot be accessed.
Resources such as printers can be shared across the network. Twenty computers in a room could share one printer over a network. Prone to receiving external attacks without appropriate network security.
You can communicate across the network and often bares no cost. Specialist technicians will need to be employed to maintain the network against failure.
Roaming - Information can be accessed across different geographic sites. The hardware necessary to build is expensive because there are number of devices necessary.
Networks can stream using web applications to computers without the need to download and store the whole software file. Networks allows for viruses to be easily spread, which can cause wide network failures and damages to files.
Fibre Optic Optical signal (Light) communication through glass fibres, which is economical compared to coaxial and twisted physical media.
Fibre Optic Very low noise contamination
Fibre Optic Not affected by magnetic inference
Fibre Optic High bandwidth meaning large amounts of the data can be downloaded and uploaded.
Fibre Optic Disadvantage: Difficult installation
Twisted Pair Disadvantage: Electrical signal communication through wires. This is not energy efficient.
Twisted Pair Bit o both: Medium noise contamination
Twisted Pair Bit o both: Medium noise contamination
Twisted Pair Less affected by external magnetic interference.
Twisted Pair Bit o both: Medium bandwidth meaning a moderate amount of data can be downloaded and uploaded.
Twisted Pair Reasonable easily installation.
Twisted Pair Disadvantage: Moderately expensive compared to coaxial cables.
Coxial Disadvantage: Electrical signal communication through wires. This is not energy efficient.
Coxial Disadvantage: High noise contamination
Coxial Disadvantage: Can be affected by external magnetic interference
Coxial Disadvantage: Low bandwidth meaning less data can be transferred during download and upload.
Coxial Easy installation
Coxial Lowest cost of the three communication media.
