Define: Values Something which individuals deem important. Example: Women are seen to be the main care givers to children.
Define: Norms Behaviour that is considered normal. E.xample: Queuing
Define: Culture A group of people (societies) who have similar values, customs and social behaviour. A way of life.
Define: Consumer Culture Culture that is expressed through purchases. Your identity is made but what you consume.
Define: Behaviour The way in which people act.
Define: Subculture A smaller group within a society with values that differ slightly form the wider society. Example: Goths
Define: Cultural relativism The judgement of cultural values, norms and behaviour of different societies from the perspective of your own. . A consequence of Cultural relativism is discrimination or inequality.
Define: High Culture A culture associated with the most educated and prestigious in society. Seen through there taste in artistic and entertainment activities. Example: Hunting/Ballet
Define: Cultural Diversity Exploring the different ethnic and cultural groups within society. Example: Multilingual society
Define: Cultural Hybridity The merging of two or more cultures, to form a new combined culture. Example: Karma
Define: Popular Culture The main form culture based upon the ordinary or not highly educated, This is followed by a large population of people.. Example: Pop Music
Define: Global culture Also known as Glocal. As a result of the internet and social media, we are able to communicate and connect with people all over the world. Glocal refers to the sharing of culture all over the world. Example: McDonaldsation
Define: Mass Culture Mass Culture is the set of norms and values that comes from exposure to the same media and music forms. Resulting in a sharing of cultural ideas in a much larger scale. Example: Films/Movies.
Define: Cultural Capital Cultural Capital have valuein society through status.. Cultural capital gain advantages in society due to status. Example: Attending Cambridge seen as more educated and/or wealthy,
