Question Answer
Electric current Flow of electric charge (per unit time)
Unit of electric current Ampere
Formula for electric current I = Q/t
Electrical meter for measuring current Ammeter
Circuit symbol for an ammeter
Joule's Law P = I²R
Direction of flow of conventional current From positive to negative
Direct current (Battery) Flows in one direction only
Alternating current Mains electricity; continuously changing direction
Effects of an electric current 1. Chemical; 2. Magnetic; 3. Heating
Kirchhoff's First Law Current Law: Total current entering junction = Total current leaving junction (based on Law of Conservation of Charge)
Kirchhoff's Second Law Loop Law: In any loop (path) around a circuit, the sum of the e.m.f.'s = the sum of the p.d.'s (based on Law of Conservation of Energy)
Resistance Ratio of the potential difference across a conductor to the current through the conductor (R=V/I), provided temperature & other physical conditions remain constant.
