Why is quality important for all businesses? It will ensure that the business: - establishes a brand image - builds brand loyalty - will maintain a good reputation - will help to increase sales - attracts new costumers
If quality is not maintained the business will - lose costumers to other brands - have to replace faulty products or repeat poor services which will raise costs for the business - have a bad reputation which will lead to lower sales and profits
Quality control Quality control is the checking for quality at the end of the production process, whether it is the production of a product or a service
Advantages and disadvantages of quality control Adv: - Tries to eliminate faults before customer receives it - Less training required for the workers Disadv: - Expensive as workers need to be paid to check - identifies the fault but doesn't find why the fault has occurred - increased costs if products have to be reworked or service repeated
Quality assurance Quality assurance is the checking for quality standards throughout the production process. Total quality management (TQM) is one approach to implementing a quality assurance system.

Total quality management (TQM) Total quality management is the continues improvement of products and processes by focusing on quality at each stage of production
Advantages and disadvantages of total quality management Adv: - Waste is removed and efficiency increases - eliminates all faults before customer receives it - saves costs as no services need to repeated or products reworked - no customer complaints which will improve brand loyalty and image - quality is built into every stage of production Disadv: - expensive to train employees to check - relies on employees following TQM
