Prejudice : To Pre-Judge someone unfairly/ negative attitude towards group of people without knowing much about the. For Example: Women are bad drivers
Discrimination : This is an action -> acting upon prejudice. This can involve treating someone unfairly or preventing them from having equal chance in life.
Stereotype : To believe a group of people who share similar characteristics (race/sex/religion/age) are all the same
Scapegoating: Blaming certain groups from problems in society
Patriotism: This is a belief that people from your country and race are better than others. It can be used to a less severe degree to simply mean that someone is proud of their country
Justice: This is a situation where everything is right,fair and according to the law or making amends to what has been done wrong
Tolerance To respect the belief and practices of other religions
Harmony To live in peace with others
Value of an individual The belief that everyone individual has been created by god, therefore everyone has a special value
Human Rights : The basic rights and freedom every human is entitled to
Equality This means that all humans have the same rights as each other. We have the same value and worth. We are all equal and deserve respect.
Community This is a group of people who live together. The group has a responsibility for the welfare of each other
Racism : Prejudice based on race. This is the belief that someone skin colour/ ethnicity determines their ability and characteristics
Sexism : A form of gender prejudice. It means treating people unfairly due to their gender
Religious Prejudice : Prejudice towards people of a particular Religious group e.g. Islamophobia ( Prejudice against Muslims/ Islam)
Homophobia : Prejudice based on someones sexuality e.g Homosexuals
Ageism : Prejudice concerned with the age of the person e.g. old men cant drive
Disability Discrimination Discrimination towards the disabled : This can be through calling names but also denying disabled employees to service.
Are Men in women equal ? - (YES) Christianity In God's eye all people are equal. Gender is irrelevant - " there is neither Jew or Greek male or female for you are one in Jesus Christ"
Are men and women equal? - (NO) Christianity St Paul suggested that men are superior to women in marriage -" Wives must submit to your husband"
Are men and women equal in islam? ( YES) Allah wants all people treated equally. " Allah loves his creation.. and the fair minded"
Are men and women equal in islam? (NO) in Mohammad ( PBUH) Hadith's when talking about the relationships of men and women, he often refers to females as 'helpers'. This suggests his view was that male had a more dominant role
Islam on prejudice and discrimination All people are part of Allah's community. We are one community as humans, not separate ones in terms of trace and gender - ' cling firmly together by means of Allah's rope and do not be divided
