Question Answer
What bases run along a DNA strand (Include names)? A, T, C, G (Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine, Guanine)
What bases run along a RNA strand (Include names)? A, U, C, G (Adenine, Uracil, Cytosine, Guanine)
What is the purpose of Transcription and Translation? To make protein from DNA
What comes first Transcription or Translation? Transcription
What does Transcription synthesis? RNA on a DNA transplate
Where does translation get it's information from? mRNA
Where is the site of translation from mRNA to amino acid sequence? Ribosomes
What is a primary transcript? The initial RNA transcript from any gene
What are flanking regions? Sequences of DNA that are found on either side of the sequence of interest
What are intercalators? A type of molecule that binds to DNA
What are introns? Sections of a gene which are non-coding for protein and are removed during transcription
What's polyadenylation? Occurs during transcription when a series of Adenine residues are added to the 5' end of the mRNA
What's polymorphic? variation in DNA sequence
What's splicing? Occurs during transcription when introns are removed and exons join together before being translated into protein
What are snRNP's? They're spliceosomes and they recognise the splice sites
