Question Answer
DA42 Heating System Heat exchangers in the engine nacelle provide warm air for heating. Hot coolant from the engine flows through the heat exchangers warming cold air coming in through the intakes which is then used for heating.
DA42 Engines 2 x 4 cylinder, liquid cooled, turbocharged thielart 125 4 stroke engines
DA42 Electrical system Power is generated by two 28v engine driven alternators If engine failed/not running power is supplied via the main battery A dry cell non-rechargable battery for emergency powers the standby instruments Right and left bus bar powers avionics and other system drawing power from the main battery or alternators with engine master on.
DA42 Hydraulics/Landing Gear Brakes use hydraulic pressure for hydraulic disc brakes with pressure stored in two reservoirs on the co-pilots brakes. Hydraulic pressure is used to operate landing gear. Hyd pump only operates when pressure falls below a determined value Gear selected down - Hydraulic pressure fed to actuators on each gear which extends them Gear selected up - Fluid flows to both sides of actuator due to surface area on the retract side this drains the fluid from the extend side causing the gear to retract.
DA42 Fuel System Fuel stored in aluminium tanks in each wing. A fuel cross feed allows fuel in either tank to feed either engine a/r On each side fuel is drawn down from the tank by a low pressure pump which is then fed to a high pressure injector rail and then injected into the cylinders. Unused fuel is then cool by an air cooler and returned to the tank.
DA42 Icing System Known as an Anti-Icing system not a de-icing system Has 3 modes :- Normal, High, Max Depending on setting Anti Ice is pushed out through pourous holes in the wing and stabiliser leading edge which then is distributed by the airflow. Thrown by throwers onto the props which using centrifugal forces to distribute the liquid.
B737 - Electrical System Primary electrical power is provided by two engine integrated drive generators that provide AC power. Each IDG supplies its own bus in normal ops but can supply the other side if IDG is inop. Transformer Rectifier Unit and main battery provides DC power Main and Auxillary batteries also provide back up power for AC and DC systems. The APU operates a generator that can provide AC + DC power inflight or on the ground. 3 Main Systems :- AC,DC and backup
737 Hydraulics System 3 Hydraulics systems A,B and Standby Standby system is used if pressure is lost from A or B. Each hydraulic system has a fluid resevoir in the main wheel area. Systems A+B are pressurised by bleed air. Standby is connected to B's reservoir for pressurisation and servicing.
737 Anti Icing Thermal Anti Icing, Electrical anti icing and windshield wipers for ice and rain protection. Anti Ice and Rain systems include: Flight Deck Window Heat Windshield Wipers Probe + Sensor Heat Engine anti ice using bleed air Wing Anti ice Ice detection System
