Why is a mihrab a necessary feature in a mosque? The mihrab is a semicircle niche in the wall that is placed in the direction of Mecca, thus signifying the direction followers should pray in.
What is the cubed structure in the centre of Mecca? The Kaaba, also known as the Sacred House stands in the most sacred point of the mosque. Muslims are expected to face Kaaba when performing salat (prayer).
What is the Torah ark? The Torah ark is the cabinet in which the Torah scrolls are housed.
What is a wat? A wat is a Buddhist sacred precinct with monks' quarters, the temple proper, an edifice housing a large image of Buddha, and a structure for lessons.
