Pons Controls respiration
Medulla Controls involuntary processes e.g. respiration & blood pressure and contains the Medulla oblongata
Midbrain Conducts nerve impulses from the forebrain to the hindbrain and vice versa
Reticular formation Set of interconnecting nuclei that controls consciousness and arousal
Neuron receptors receptors between nerve cells which detect and pass on messages from one nerve to another (synapses are the junctions between the 2 cells)
Limbic system Involved in motivation, emotion, memory and learning
Thalamus The relay station for most information going into the brain e.g. processing information from sense organs
Hypothalamus Regulates hormones, controls homeostasis
Cerebrum Controls voluntary actions
