How do you avoid food waste? I try very hard to meal-plan because as a working person and having a busy family, I really try to make sure that there is enough food at the beginning of the week.
What do you think about supermarkets? We all love the convenience, the price and the choice of food that supermarkets offer, but we usually get tempted by the two-for-one offers especially on things that we use.
Do you think we need to produce more food? Although some people struggle to buy even the most basic food, there is enough food for everyone. The problem is all about inefficiency.
What should we do to reverse this worrying trend? We should put into practice apps and websites to distribute excess food, set up food banks, and require restaurants to stop restaurants to stop sending food waste to landfills.
How do we take care of food and water? Globally we are getting worse at wasting water and food that is often still edible.
How much food does not reach our dinner plates? About a quarter of the food we produce worldwide never reaches our dinner plates.
How does food wast occur in richer contries? Being slightly blemished or having imperfections, most fruits and vegetables are discarded, although they are perfectly nutritious to eat.
How does food wast occur in poorer contries? Farms use inefficient farming techniques, which lead to waste.
How do we reverse food waste in developing countries? There needs to be investment in farming to improve things like food storage and packaging for the farming industry.
How do we reverse food waste in richer countries? There needs to consume fruits and vegetables that have imperctions but are perfectly edible.
How do food banks work? They're part of a system where people who are struggling financially are given free food to cook or eat which other people have donated.
Why are there so many people hard-up? I suppose one place to start is the financial crisis of 2008 which made a lot of people redundant.
What do you mean by zero-hours contracts? There are some people on doing part-time work and they don't earn enough money to buy some of the essential things in life
What do food banks do apart from providing food? Some of these food banks also run courses about how to cook well on a low budget.
Do you like tinned ready meals? I can't eat tinned foods because almost all of them contain sugar.
What is an allergy? An allergy is a condition that makes you feel ill after eating, touching or breathing in a particular substance.
Why are there so many people suffering from allergies? In a sterile environment babies don't get exposed to a wide enough variety of bacteria that colonise their guts.
How is food industry marketing? The food industry is now marketing their products to attract consumers who don't have a proven allergy.
Why do people buy expensive free-from food products? Parents have become unnecessarily frightened of our food, spending money to give their children foods with ingredients taken out.
What's the staple food of Brazil? The basic food in Brazil – the staple food – is rice and beans. You can have it with fried eggs, a steak or some salad.
What is a special dish called 'feijoada'? It's a stew made of black beans and with pieces of pork. The main dish is served with side dishes such as fried greens and toasted manioc flour.
