ADVERBS

adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, prepositions, conjunctions, and other adverbs
1. adverbs answer the questions:
  1. How?
  2. where?
  3. why?
  4. to what extend?
  5. how often?
types of adverbs
1. manner
  1. They go after the verb or the object.
    1. when the object is too long, they can be between the object or befor the verb
      1. they carefully picked up all the bits of broken glass.
    2. They did it NICELY.
  2. carefully
  3. quickly
  4. kindly
2. place
  1. they can appear
    1. at the end
    2. at the begining (prescriptive grammar)
      1. with intransitive verbs indicating position
  2. in the garden
  3. at the university
3. time
  1. they usually appear at the begining or at the end of the sentence
    1. except these advbers:
      1. JUST, STILL, YET-DAILY, HOURLY, MONTHLY AND WEEKLY

  1. they compare two qualities
    1. this sofa is more softly than the other one

  1. they indicate one modified word has a quality to a greater or lesser degree than the others
