  1. Like all text types, variants of instructions occur and they can be combined with other text types.
    1. They may be visual only or a combination of words and images
    2. Purpose
      1. To ensure something is done effectively and/or correctly with a successful outcome for the participant(s).
        1. To provide sequenced information or directions so that people can successfully perform activities in safe, efficient and appropriate ways.
        2. Common forms of procedural
          1. Instructions
            1. Your language must meet the needs of your audience and you may need to include a diagram if there are complex elements to complete.
            2. Recipes
              1. There is a very clear expectation of the audience so never stray from the essentials.
                1. Ingredients, method and a few visuals are essential.
                2. Manuals
                  1. Be very specific in your explanation.
                  2. Directions
                    1. Very specific instructions including location names and titles.
                      1. Formal language is required and the addition of a map will make your instructions so much easier to understand.
                      2. Rules for games
                        1. Be conscious of your audience and write in a style and language they will understand.
                          1. You are almost guaranteed to require visuals in this style of writing.
