50. Conditionals

1. No solemos utilizar will en la if-clause

   • If they’re not eaten by the larger animals first…
   • Lo utilizamos cuando hablamos sobre un resultado de algo en la oración principal
     • Certainly we should have captive breeding programmes if it will help / if it helps save species
   • Mostrar que desaprobamos algo
     • If you will throw stones at the animals, it’s not surprising!

2. Podemos utilizar tanto unless como if, a excepción de que el significado sea “except if”

3. If...not pero no unless

   • Diciendo en la oración principal que un evento o acción en la if-clause es inesperado
     • I’ll be surprised if we don’t get permission to build the zoo.
   • Normalmente en preguntas
     • How will children learn about wild animals if they don’t see them in zoos?
   • El significado es similar a because...not más que except if
     • If developing countries don’t have the money to establish nature reserves…
   • Frases condicionales irreales
     • If we didn’t have zoos, most people would never see wild animals

4. Unless pero no if...not cuando introducimos un pensamiento posterior

   • We must have zoos if we want children to learn more about wild animals - unless their parents are rich enough to go on holiday to Africa…

5. Condiciones irreales

   • Podemos usar otros modales además de would en la oración principal
     • If we’d introduced captive breeding earlier, animals now extinct might have survived
   • No solemos utilizar would en la if-clause
     • If we had more funding, we would be able…
   • Podemos utilizar would cuando hablamos sobre un resultado deseado
     • If it would remove some of the concerns … they could be involved in drawing up plans…
