Chapter 5.4: System Structure Function; Minimal Cuts and Minimal Paths
Coherent Systems:
- Doesn´t degrade the system reliability.
- Its structure function is monotonically increasing.
Minimal PATHS and CUT sets
- PATHS is a set of components whose functioning ensures that the system function.
- Minimal PATHS: All the components within the set must function for the system to function.
- CUT is a set of components whose failure will result in a system failure.
- Minimal CUT: All the components must fail in order for the system to fail
- PATHS is a set of components whose functioning ensures that the system function.
Common modes Failures
- Several components may share the same power source or external enviromental conditions such as excessive heat or vibration may several components in the same manner.
Three States Devices
- Open and Short failure mode.
- Redundancy mat either increase or dicrease system reliability
- Open and Short failure mode.
Parallel Structure
Low Level Redundancy
