Renaissance and Reformation in Europe
1. The humanism began in Italy and slowly spread to the rest of europe
2. Rich families such as the Medici family supported artists, also rich families were members of important royal places
3. Humanism was supported by people such as Erasmus, Thomas More and William Shakespeare
4. many people felt uncomfortable because of the practices of the Catolic church so they decided to start the reformation
5. Angilican and Lutherian churches started with this movement
6. The Catolic church started the Counter Reformation to stop this spreading
Europe Explores New Ideas and Places
1. Scientists during the renaissance started using their brain and used the scientific method to confirm their theories
2. Copernicus and Galleo used this method to proved that planets moved around the sun.
3. Issac Newton discovered the law of gravity witch explains why planets stay in their position and why objects fall
4. In france and Rusia the King held and absolute power and could do anything they wanted.
5. Louis XV made the Palace of Versailles to get built
6. Queen Elizabeth was a great ruler and governed during the Elizhabethan Age
7. England rejected the idea of an absolute ruler
8. Europeans wanted an all water route to Asia so the made trips and discovered new places
9. Spanish and Portuguese claimed lands in the all new discovered America
Europeans in the Americas
1. Hernán Cortés sailed to actual Mexico in search for gold
2. Cortés defeated the Aztec because of illness and because other groups joined cortés to defeat them
3. Pizzarro defeated the Inca empire and killed their leader
4. Spanish brought new diseases to the Americas and Native americans had no immunity
5. The english also wanted territory so they settled 13 colonies in what now is known as USA
6. The French also wanted lands in north america and they settled New France
7. Native americans tried to Defend their territory but at the end the lost it
African kingdoms and the slave trade
1. The Ashanti states united and made a confederation

  2. They belived that animals and plants had souls
2. The kingdom of benin belibed everyone had a personal god
3. The people of kongo were first kind to the portuguese but portuguese didn´t and then they attacked
  1. this led to a civil war and the portuguese won
  2. Portuguese kindnapped african people to use them as slaves
4. Portuguese started the european slave trade
  1. The need of workers at the tobbacco sugar and cotton plantations in the americans led to a nececity for more slaves
  2. African were kidnapped or taken or sold from their natal homes and crowded very tightly into ships
  3. This extremly brutal trip was called The Middle Passage in witch 1 of free passengers survived
  4. The system of the triangular trade used slaves to work for plantations in America and then the result was sold to europe and europe bought slaves and the cicle continued
Asian empires gain power
1. The ottoman empire was one of the greatest empires in history , it was HUGE
2. The Ottomans made their slaves Janissares who where elite army
3. Safavids were Shi'ite muslims and only believed that a Muhammads descendant could rule
  1. Safavids became world famous because of their amazing and very expensive Persian carpets
4. Muslims got to rule india in 1526

  2. Akbar(a Mughal ruler) was one of the greatest rulers in history
  3. shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal to put his wife´s tomb and remember her
  4. The Mughal Empire weakened and Europeans started taking control of india

  1. The emperor believed that Chinese villages should be self-sufficient and they don´t needed foregein trading
  2. China sent expeditons to the world to show their power
  3. During the Ming dynasty,the forbidden city was built and that was because only a selected group of people could get in
  4. The Manchu took over the forbidden city and sat up the Qing Dynasty
6. The Tokugawa shogunate took part in Japan
  1. The shogun used an strategy to make daimyo be loyal to him
  2. The Shoguns believed in isolationism and Japan was cut off from the rest of the world during their rule
  3. The kabuki was a type like of japanese play
Age of revolutions
1. The french and indian war let many economic and personal losts to the Americans
2. The British wanted to abuse of colonists and made them pay for the war
  1. British put a lot of taxes to the Colonists but colonists disagree and started treating bad the british
    1. War for independence started and in 1776 Thomas Jefferson Wrote the Declaration of Independence and America was at last a free country
3. In France, Louis XVI was a weak king
  1. The population was divided in 3 states and the third one had almost no rights
  2. The third state created its own National Assembly and then the frenc revolution started
  3. The reign of terror started and many people were killed by the guillotine, including the King and Queen
  4. After the reign of terror, Napoleon came to power. He won a lot of territory but he lost his last battle at waterloo and was sent to an island
4. Latin americans inspired by the other revolutions they wanted to be free too.So they started an independence
  1. The first latin American independent country was Haiti freed by Toussaint-loverture
  2. Mexico won its independence in 1821
  3. Simón Bolívar won the nickname of the libertator because he freed what became the nations of Colombia,Venezuela,Ecuador and Panama.
The industrial revolution
1. During the industrial revolution people started using machines instead of tools
2. The textile industry had great improvements
3. New steamboats improved water transportation
4. George Stephenson created the worlds first railroad train
5. The telephone and the electric bulb were created by alexander graham Bell and Thomas Edison
6. The development of the internal combustion led to cars and plains
7. Industrial revolution improved many peoples standard of living
8. Dirty and dangerous work conditions led to labor unions and new laws
  1. Urbanization began and caused many problems
  2. Karl Marx started communism
Growth of Nationalism
1. European leaders met at the congress of vienna
  1. Strong nationalism made Italy unite
  2. The german states joined in a single country which will later would later be one of the most powerful nations in europe
  3. Great Britain grew HUGE
    1. They had Canada, Australia and New Zealand and they gave them self rule but still controlled them
2. United states won new territories
  1. They gained louisiana
  2. They fought in war against Mexico and won Texas
  3. Millions of americans and immigrants moved into these new lands
  4. Native americans were forced to leave their homes
  5. Civil war started but the north of USA won and Lincoln made changes to the constitution to end slavery and gave african Americans more rights
3. Austria had many nationalities within its borders
  1. The Hungarians fought with Austria and formed Austria-Hungary
  2. The Ottoman empire had become weak, it lost most of the big original territory it had
  3. Rusia extended but remained being weak in many ways
    1. Russians lost the Crimean War (fight to control Palestine)
