EXCEPTIONS
1. ADDING -ING
  1. final e is dropped (but: ee is not changed)
    1. EXAMPLE: come - coming agree - agreeing
  2. after a short, stressed vowel, the final consonant is doubled
    1. EXAMPLE: sit – sitting
  3. l as final consonant after a vowel is doubled (in British English)
    1. EXAMPLE: travel – travelling
  4. final ie becomes y
    1. EXAMPLE: lie – lying
Use of Past Continuous
1. puts emphasis on the course of an action in the past EXAMPLE:He was playing football.
2. two actions happening at the same time (in the past) EXAMPLE: While she was preparing dinner, he was washing the dishes.
3. action going on at a certain time in the past EXAMPLE: When I was having breakfast, the phone suddenly rang.
