Lent
  1. Etymology
    1. The English word Lent is a shortened form of the Old English word len(c)ten, meaning "spring season", as its Dutch language cognate lente (Old Dutch lentil) still does today.
    2. Duration
      1. Various Christian denominations calculate the 40 days of Lent differently.
      2. Customs
        1. Go to the Curch
          1. Do the Fasting
            1. Celebrate the Ash Wednesday
            2. The calculation of the 40 days of lent- how is it done?
              1. In order for Lent to include 40 days on which fasting could occur, it had to be expanded to six full weeks (with six days of fasting in each week) plus four extra days—Ash Wednesday and the Thursday, Friday, and Saturday that follow it. Six times six is thirty-six, plus four equals forty. And that's how we arrive at the 40 days of Lent!
              2. Personal Comment
                1. in my opinion the Lent is important to the people because is a time to be in peace and love others, to remember that god save us from the temptations and we have to follow him to the way of peace
