1. Business process is where all the different divisions of an organisation all work together - Better than function!
2. Business function is where all the departments are separate from each other
FUNCTION: benefits - More specailised where everyone will know their job really well con - There isn't effective communication between different departments
PROCESS: Improved customer services, value adding, end-user perspective, competitive advantage through outsourcing
An ERP system is a set of computer program modules that attempts to integrate the different functional areas of the organisation. An ERP is designed based on best practice - the best way of performing a particular process
ISSUES IN MOVING TO A BUSINESS PROCESS: 1. Management change - support must come from the top. 2. People change - specialist jobs becoming generalists jobs
BUSINESS PROCESS RE-ENGINEERING (BPR): The fundamental rethinking and radical redesign of business processes to achieve dramatic improvements in critical contemporary measures of performance, such as cost, quality, service and speed
