HItler and the Nazis were determined to exterminate the Jews from society.
Mein Kampf can be used
to show Hitler's long term
goals of extermination as
well as the deep seated
anti-semitism that existed in
Austria.
There were stages that lead to the Extermination of the Jews, each
step was required to reach the end goal of extermination. The First stage was the Legislative Phase.
Annotations:
First Stage:
Legislative Phase: 1933-35 --> first attack was launched in terms of economic war against the Jews, Boycotting of 'Jewish shops, 1933.
Nuremburg LAws 1935 --> Law for the protection of German Blood and Honour and Reich Citizenship Law. They were intended to intimidate the Jewish citizens. The Nuremburg laws were intended to eliminate Jews from society, by removing their rights, they were eliminated from society, this elimination was legalised with the creation of such policy.
Second Phase, was the Emmigration Phase.
Context
Ant-Semitism was always present in
Europe, it was not a new concept. Eg
Catholic stereotyping of Jews as
'christ-killers' had been widespread
throughout Europe.
Myth of Jewish role in
the loss of WW1.
Nazi ideological claims that there
was a Jewish-Bolshevik conspiracy
determined to destroy Western
Civilisation and christianity. This
expressed Nazi ideology as
essentially defensive in nature and
legitimate in defending existing
German values. Without the Nazis
attacking the Jews Germany would
be under threat of a communist
takeover. The Nazis job was to
protect civilisation .
HItler's
personal hatred
towards the
Jews. clearly
expressed in
Mein Kampf,
this expressed
Hitler's wish to
rid germany of
the Jews.
