  1. Rationalising the denominator
    1. When a surd is on the bottom we rationalise it to get it on the top.
      1. We do this by multiplying the bottom and top by the surd that is at the bottom
        1. Simplify this until you have a normal equation.
      2. This could get you 2 - 3 marks.
      3. /ab = /a x /b
        1. This means when one is a square number we can get rid of it.
          1. For example /8 = /4 x /2
            1. /4 is equal to /2.
              1. Therefore we can simplify /8 to 2/2
