An analysis of the ability to complete a project
successfully, taking into account legal, economic,
technological, scheduling and other factors. Rather
than just diving into a project and hoping for the
best, a feasibility study allows project managers to
investigate the possible negative and positive
outcomes of a project before investing too much
time and money.
Types
Technical Feasibility - is
the company technically
advanced to a state in
which they can conduct
the process with success,
not too mush hassle
time feasibility - if the
company wants the project to
be completed to fit a certain
schedule or time frame will
that be possible?
Economical feasibility - can the
company actually afford the
project, are they economically
able.
Legal and Ethical
Feasibility - What are the
legal implications of the
project? What sort of ethical
considerations are there?
You need to make sure that
any project undertaken will
meet all legal and ethical
requirements.
marketing feasibility - Who
actually wants the product,
is it in demand by other
companies. can it turn a
profit
Intellectual feasibility - are the
staff qualified to use the
programme?
Method
Observing the current system in operation
this is time consuming however it
provides a better understanding.
People usually work harder and
more efficiently when being
observed, therefore this may not be
the best method as it does not show
the full truth of the usuage of the
current system in place.
Consulting current documentation
Reviewing the input process and
output. clear proof of the software
details. However to fully comprehend
the documentation, it takes a long time if
working alone.
Carry out a questionnaire to both staff and customers
using a questionnaire means that you can
get the review of a large sum of people.
However, people will rush the questionnaire
and some might not even take it seriously
at all, so you might get false results.
Questionnaires do not allow the person to
fully elaborate themselves as it provides
limited answers, this means that if the
answer that the reader wants is not there
they will play the guessing game to write
down a random answer
Interview both staff and customers
people will feel more inclined to tell the truth face to face, this will
give you more reliable results. Now the person being interviewed
can fully express themselves using as many words they can
because there is no box limiting them anymore. Costs money and
time, not really cost effective in that aspect. some people might
feel intimidated, or on the other hand actually feel really involved.
using all of these methods will obtain the best result overall, as all have different flaws and
different advantages. Also people would feel involved in the making of the product therefore they
will complain less about the product as they will believe they made a direct impact on the making of
this product
