Non Finite
Infinitives
A verb with no subject. It usually comes after 'to'
'To go' 'To Be' 'To see'
It can also appear without the 'to'
I better not 'ask'
Participles
Participles are similar to tenses but it only comes in present & past particples
They both use auxillary verbs (or helping verbs) to create a complete verb
Present: to sing = singing (I am singing - 'am' is the auxillary and 'singing' is the present participle
Past: to walk = walked (I had walked a thousand miles - 'had' is the auxillary and 'walked' is the past participle
Transitive and Intransitive
Transitive Verbs require a subject or object to complete the meaning.
The man ran the race.
One is required to ask 'Who?'or 'What?' after the verb
Intransitive Verbs do not require an object or subject.
'The rain poured' and 'The wind blew'
