Is your idea appropriate for an EPQ? I
believe it is as we haven't covered it in
class but it is also something that could fill
the word count and interests me
For example, is your topic dependent on a lot of support from
others? An EPQ requires independent study. No i could complete
this topic question without much help and i should be able to get
on with it in my own time.
Time
How much time have you planned to
dedicate to your EPQ?
Have you chosen a topic you can complete within the available time?
Think about your ‘Current knowledge’, the‘Ease of finding information’,
and the project's ‘Achievability’.
Achievability
Consider the scope of your topic.
In other words, is your idea both big
enough and small enough to make a
convincing project within the word count?
I think it is a very open topic however i
should be able to condense the question
down to a smaller part which is more
manageable
Personal interests
You will be spending a lot of time on your EPQ, so
choose a topic that interests you! This topic is to do
with my favourite subject at school and in a field
which i know i will enjoy
Help available
How much help do you need with finding out about
the topic? Not too much i should be fine to use
the internet and find some books from the library.
Are you certain that there is enough support for your choice
of topic? I think there will be lots of information online as it
is very topical however not so sure there will be many good
books.
Your motivation
Consider why you are doing your EPQ. I am
doing it because i would i really enjoy the
topic i am choosing and also think it would
enhance my ucas application
If it is to enhance your UCAS Personal Statement, choose a
topic that does do this. Partly and i have choosen a topic that
fits with what i would like to apply to university with
Ease of finding
information
Investigate how easy it is to find the
information you need. Should be relatively
easy to find the information on the internet
as there are lots of relative articles and research pieces
If this is difficult, you may need to
rethink the topic.
Current coursework
Remember your EPQ cannot repeat work you
have done in your A-Level or other coursework.
It can extend something you have already
investigated, but it MUST NOT be the same. The topic
is something we have partly covered in class but not
in the actual specification. We briefly went through it
in class but this made me want to know more about
the topic
Ethics
Is your project ‘ethical’?
In other words, if your topic involves people in some way, ensure you
respectful both of their privacy and in the way you discuss them. My
project doesn't involve people so this shouldn't be too much of a
problem
Current knowledge
You may find it easier to choose a topic that
you already know something about.
This will allow you to get a head start by
brainstorming what you know and
deciding what you need to find out.
Think hard before choosing something completely
new because this may involve a lot more work!
