Three-Box model
A computer system can be consisting of three boxes:
The processor
Known as the central processing unit (CPU)
Storage
Known as the main memory of just memory
Input and output
Electronics for communication with other devices
The architecture was first proposed in 1945 by John von Neumann. And is still used in the modern PC
Processor
The Brain of the system
Responsible for excecuting programs and supervising the functioning of the other parts of the system
Probably the most complex element in the system. But is simply just a large finite state machine
A typical microprocessor contains 100,000,000 or more transistors
